HAI PHONG – Bao Dai Palace was built by the Governor General of Indochina in 1928 in a prime location in Do Son to be used as a resort, then donated to King Bao Dai.

Bao Dai mansion has an area of ​​​​1,000 m2 located in a campus of more than 3,700 m2 on the top of Vung hill, in area 2 Do Son, Van Huong ward.

The only residence of the last king of the Nguyen Dynasty in the North is located at an altitude of nearly 40 m above sea level, surrounded by green trees and overlooking the beach.

The building is built in the shape of an octagon, typical French architecture with two floors and a basement. The foundation is embanked with laterite. There are gardens in front and behind the mansion.

The entrance to the mansion is a small road winding along the hillside, with many flowers and vines on both sides. This is the right place to take pictures.

The main door of the Bao Dai mansion faces west, there are 3 main doors to enter the reception hall.

The lobby of the mansion has the seats of King Bao Dai and Queen Nam Phuong in the middle. Today, visitors can rent clothes for kings and queens, and sit on chairs to take pictures.

To the right of the reception hall are two private rooms of the king and queen. The room has brocade upholstered furniture, the main yellow color. The interior of the room is kept the same. To the left of the bedroom, there is also a small room where King Bao Dai enjoyed the wind, watched the moon, and worked.

To the left of the reception hall are two dining rooms that also have royal-style interiors. The large dining room is where Queen Nam Phuong often holds a reception. The small dining room, close to the window, is where the king’s family used.

The second floor is the bedroom of five princesses, princes and king Nguyen De. Which, the room of Crown Prince Bao Long is the largest.

The rooms have large windows for beautiful views. In the photo is the view from the defensive window of Nguyen De.

This mansion was used by King Bao Dai from 1933 to 1954. In 1955, Hai Phong was liberated, Bao Dai mansion was managed by the Ministry of Defense. In 1984, the Ministry of Defense handed over to Do Son Tourism Joint Stock Company.

On September 29, 2020, Hai Phong City People’s Committee recognized Bao Dai Villa, Van Huong Ward, Do Son District as a tourist destination. Each year, this mansion welcomes about 60,000 visitors. Currently, visitors can rent rooms, organize parties, and conferences, and eat meals at the place where the king and queen of the Nguyen Dynasty used to live.
