The eyes and smiles of children in the Northwest highlands are like forest trees growing up in the middle of thousands, innocent and bright in somewhat wild life.

Coming to the Northwest highlands this season, visitors can encounter golden terraced fields, and cotton rice fields that are heavy with harvest seeds and faintly fragrant with new rice and nuggets in the wind. Here, the mountain roads bring the steps of the steep pass flooded in the golden autumn sunshine. The golden rice valleys are always an attractive destination for tourists to explore the scenery of Mu Cang Chai.

In addition to the golden colors of the ripe rice season, visitors can also immerse themselves in the daily life of the people here, clearly seeing the difficulties of the mountainous people. Especially the children who are in the age of eating and playing also go to the fields with their parents.

In the midst of a life full of difficulties and deprivations, the child’s face still shines with smiles. The children’s games are also very simple, they slide the dirt, roll the wheel, dig the earth or simply wander the mountains.

Without smartphones, the internet, and high-end toys, the joy of mountain children is simply with what is available in the field.

The playground of highland children is the hillside, the field, and the lawn lying in the middle of the green.

Those children are not bought by their parents for beautiful clothes or good toys, so they find simple joys with the surrounding mountains and forests on their own.

Clear eyes, timid look are images of highland children when strangers visit the village.

They live in extreme poverty, but perhaps because of that, many children still have innocence with their age, bringing with them the innocence that many children in urban areas have lost. 

The ripe rice season is also the time when many tourists participate in paragliding. Flying with white clouds, watching the terraces change color in the sun is what many tourists enjoy. The most “fascinating” time to fly is in the late afternoon, when the light yellow sun slant diagonally through the clouds, creating sparkling rays of light. 

At the foot of Khau Pha Pass, the valleys are exposed with a golden color. The scenery is like changing clothes when each field is ripe. The people here are busy going to the fields to reap the fruits after a season of fertilizing.

The beauty of Mu Cang Chai and its people is always one of the attractions for tourists and photographers to the Northwest highlands.
