That guy is Vo Van Thanh (27 years old, residing in Ha Nam village, Duy Vinh commune, Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam) – who gave up the flat road to choose a thorny path when he was determined to make a career in his own land. land buried together cut navel.

In 2017, Thanh graduated in Geotechnical Engineering, from Hue University of Science. Very quickly, the new young engineer was hired by a series of “carpet” companies with a good salary. Finally, Thanh chose “to join the army” for a business operating in the field of construction survey consulting in Da Nang city.

Working in a dynamic environment, often having business trips in many localities along the central provinces, by chance, the geological engineer was fascinated by the color of water lilies. ” During a field trip outside Thua Thien – Hue in 2019, I had the opportunity to visit a gardener specializing in growing water lilies and was extremely excited to see dozens of varieties of water lilies with all colors. So I spent nearly half of my monthly salary (8 million VND) to buy guns to plant to satisfy my hobby “ – Thanh recalls.

Thought the pleasure of “playing” water lilies were only temporary, but unexpectedly, Thanh was “fatigued and tired” before the attraction of this faintly fragrant flower. Then, the idea of ​​starting a business by growing water lilies began to appear in Thanh’s mind at the time of the epidemic COVID-19 strong and prolonged outbreak during 2 years 2020-2021.

Referring to this, Thanh continued: “During the two-year period when the epidemic raged, I stayed at home a lot, so I had time to learn more about the water lily. By the end of 2021 – the time when the epidemic is no longer stressful. As before, I decided to submit a resignation letter due to the fierce intervention of my relatives. garden houses in Hue, Quang Ngai for cultivation. The entire 600 square meter land fund around the house has also been renovated and built a lake for growing guns.

According to Thanh, when he first started to grow guns, he experienced many failures. For example, once Thanh ordered a water lily in Thailand for 5-15 million VND, but the long shipping time (from 2 weeks) made the gun no longer able to grow. So Thanh regretted losing tens of millions of dong. 

Initially, the water contaminated with alum also made Thanh suffer when the gun slowly died because it was not suitable for this type of water. Since then, Thanh decided to dig wells 30 meters deep, combined with local water to ensure a supply of clean water for the gun to develop well.

Talking about the development of the gun, Thanh said: “Each tuber will sprout from 2-10 plants. About half a month, the tree will be separated (at this time, the tree is about 20cm tall, with roots and leaves standing). The plants will be placed in a small pot with a diameter of 10cm for planting. After 2 weeks, they will be transferred to a large pot with a diameter of 50cm. On average, the water lily will flower in 1.5 months.

Up to now, after more than 9 months of returning home to set up a business, the lakes around Thanh’s garden have more than 20 types of guns. The lowest price is the Australian gun that changes color (VND 150 thousand/tube).

The two most expensive gun varieties Thanh owns are Envy (12 million VND/tube) and Horizon (15 million VND/tube).

Sharing about her monthly income and her cherished plan, Thanh happily confided: “From March to now, on average, I have been selling plants and flowers for a month while selling bulbs, earning a profit of 30 million VND. Currently, I am renting another 1,000 square meters of land to expand the area for growing guns and plan to hire more local workers to boost production.”
