Spend 1-2 hours a day for 7 years studying beetles

The Japanese comic books and cartoons that were exposed from a young age helped Nguyen Huynh Anh Kiet (21 years old, Ho Chi Minh City) know about the beetle hobby. Later, these bugs became more and more attracted to Kiet when he “meeted” them through the movies.

The desire to own grew into a hobby and passion made Kiet start learning about the beetle hobby when he was a 10th-grade student. After having the first beetles, Kiet spent more and more. time to learn over them with special affection.

Kiet spends 1-2 hours a day in the evening after studying to learn about the world of this animal. To expand his knowledge, Kiet still maintains this habit every day to read documents related to beetles until now.

Not just time, Kiet uses his savings to continue to collect more new varieties, at the same time supplementing specialized food and designing his own large boxes to ensure the best beetle care conditions.

Later, when he could earn money, Kiet invested in buying a refrigerator so that he could create the most ideal microclimate for raising beetles. Kiet said that these bugs grow best in conditions of temperatures below 22 degrees Celsius.

” The more I learn, the more I am attracted to colorful bugs, majestic and pitiful shapes. At first, my family prevented this passion of mine, but when I was invited by some organizations to participate in events The event related to the beetle hobby, parents were more reassured “, Kiet said.

After a few years of research, Kiet learned to let the bugs reproduce and then released them into the wild when he realized that these species were rare, even disappearing.

Spread the passion for biodiversity conservation

Later, partly because he was busy with his studies, partly because he wanted to preserve images and samples of rare and beautiful beetle species of Vietnam and the world, Kiet turned to collect beetle corpses as beetle specimens.

Diligently collecting, currently, Kiet owns a collection of more than 200 beetle specimens. Among these are the endemic subspecies in Vietnam such as: Dorcus Curviden Babai, Lucanus Kraatzi Giangae, Neolucanus Baongocae…

All specimens were carefully preserved by Kiet, fixed to the correct plane in a wooden box with a transparent glass lid and kept as treasures.

Passionate about collecting specimens as specimens, Kiet does not use live bugs to avoid affecting the number of rare species of bugs. I mainly collect bug corpses from longtime players, contact people in provinces and cities to pick up bugs and send them back to me. Some other models, Kiet was given, donated or exchanged by friends abroad.

The hobby of playing with beetles and collecting specimens helps this male student not only relieve the pressure of studying but also practice meticulousness and perseverance. At the same time, this collection also contributes to spreading the passion for biodiversity conservation, which Kiet considers a treasure, no matter how much anyone pays, he will not sell.
