In the early days of 2023, fishermen in the waters of Dien Chau district (Nghe An), were very excited when they hit the sea shell season. After each trip to the sea, people “pocket” 500,000-1,000,000 VND.($1=24,000 VND)
On the first day of February, the beach area of Dien Hai commune, Dien Kim, Dien Chau district became bustling. Dozens of rafts, large and small, landed on the shore, the compartment was full of fresh shrimp.
According to many experienced fishermen, the means of catching clams are very simple, just make a triangular push-post, 10m long, 3m wide, with a strip of net attached at the top. When encountering a stream, the catcher just needs to lower the net, raft, and move forward, and the sea turtle will immediately enter.
Just landed after a short fishing trip, Mr. Thai Van Hung (SN 1967, residing in Dien Kim commune, Dien Chau district), said that in order to catch shrimp effectively, he and his wife had to get up and prepare things to go out. from 3 o’clock every day. Mr. Hung chooses the sea areas that have been explored before and the distance is not more than 10km.
“After this fishing trip, I collected about 2 quintals of sea shellfish. This amount will be dried and sold to traders, not sold immediately. On average, each quintal of fresh shrimp will be more than 10 kg after drying. dried, the selling price fluctuates from 500,000 to 600,000 VND / 10kg”, Mr. Hung added.
The income is not as much as Mr. Hung’s family, but Mr. Thai Ba Sang (SN 1964, Dien Kim commune) was also very happy when his rafting trip landed and collected more than 1 quintal of fresh shrimp. His products caught when they arrived at the wharf, there were traders waiting on the shore to buy them.
According to Mr. Sang, a kilo of fresh shrimp costs 15,000-20,000 VND. After selling out a quintal of fresh shrimp, minus the cost, you will get about 700,000 VND.
“My family chooses to sell fresh shrimps right after catching because to continue to go out to sea to catch the second trip in a day. The work is also very hard because this time the weather is very cold, so it affects health a lot. “, said Mr. Sang.
According to many locals, this year’s sea shellfish season starts from November 2022 to around February 2023. Fresh shrimp after catching is classified by traders, purchased on the spot to go to the market to sell or dry, to import directly to the factory.
If the weather is favorable, you can go out to sea 3-4 times a day, if you win a lot, you will get 3-4 quintals. Fresh scallops sold on the spot for 15,000-20,000 VND/kg; if imported to the factory, it is only 7,000-8,000 VND/kg.
Normally, with 2-3 trips per day, fishermen have an income of 1-2 million dong, after deducting costs. Besides, many families here choose the method that the husband goes fishing and the wife stays at home to dry to sell at a better price.
Sea snails are shaped like small shrimp, about 10-40mm long, are ten-legged crustaceans, living in brackish water or coastal salt water. Can be processed into many attractive dishes and spices such as soup, salad, fish sauce…
Dien Kim and Dien Hai are two communes with a long-standing fishing profession in Dien Chau district (Nghe An). This is also a place with a large number of marine workers .
